To complain about your PF account, file a grievance on EPFO’s portal, epfigms.gov.in, using your UAN and an OTP. The system identifies the EPF office that holds your account and routes the complaint there. EPFO’s Citizens’ Charter sets 7 working days to redress a grievance; if it stays unresolved, you can send a reminder, write to EPFO’s resolution centre, or go to CPGRAMS.

Issues you can raise on EPFiGMS
EPFiGMS handles grievances about any EPFO service. Members typically use it for:
- a withdrawal, transfer or pension claim that is delayed or wrongly rejected
- contributions missing from the passbook, or an employer not depositing the deducted PF
- KYC, name or date-of-birth mismatches that block claims
- a previous PF account that has not been merged into your UAN
- UAN or member portal problems
Before you file, check the facts yourself. Our guide to the UAN passbook shows how to spot a missing contribution, and the EPF withdrawal guide lists the pre-checks that cause most rejections. If your UAN is not active yet, activate it first so the OTP reaches you.
Filing a grievance step by step
- Open epfigms.gov.in and click Register Grievance.
- In Status, choose PF Member (or EPS Pensioner, Employer, or Others). Choose Others only if you have no UAN, PPO number or establishment number.
- Enter your UAN and the captcha, and click Get Details.
- Click Get OTP, enter the OTP sent to your UAN-linked mobile, and submit.
- Check the personal details pulled from EPFO’s records and add your email and mobile.
- Select the PF account the complaint relates to, pick the grievance category and describe the problem.
- Attach supporting documents, then review and click Submit.
- Save the registration number from the screen, SMS or email.
Because the UAN is linked to EPFO’s master database, the portal sends your complaint straight to the office that maintains your account. Write the complaint in two or three plain sentences: what you applied for, when, the claim or reference number, and what went wrong.
Checking grievance status
- On epfigms.gov.in, click View Status.
- Enter the registration number and the mobile number or email you used.
- Verify with the OTP to see the current status and any reply from the EPF office.
If the office asks for more papers, use Upload Grievance Document with the same registration number. You can upload more than one file.
Escalation and the CPGRAMS route
Within EPFO
| Item | Details |
|---|---|
| Send Reminder | use this option on EPFiGMS once the grievance is pending past the 7-working-day charter period. |
| Resolution centre | EPFO’s contact page says that for grievances pending beyond 15 days, you can email rc.csd@epfindia.gov.in with your grievance number. |
| Next higher authority | the charter says an unresolved grievance is escalated to the next higher authority. The public grievance officer at EPFO head office is the Additional Central PF Commissioner (CSD). |
| Helpline | call 14470 between 7 am and 9 pm for status or guidance. |
CPGRAMS
CPGRAMS at pgportal.gov.in is the central government’s grievance portal. EPFO’s charter lists it as a second channel for lodging complaints. Its FAQ sets a 21-day redressal period, with an interim reply if there is a delay.
- Register on pgportal.gov.in and lodge a grievance against the Ministry of Labour and Employment (EPFO).
- Mention your UAN, PF account number and the EPFiGMS registration number.
- Summarise what EPFO replied and why it does not solve the problem.
- When the grievance is closed, give your rating. If you are not satisfied, file an appeal within 30 days of closure.
CPGRAMS does not take up cases pending in court, RTI matters or personal disputes.
What to keep ready as evidence
- UAN, PF account (member ID) numbers, and PPO number for pension cases
- Claim ID or tracking number and the date you filed the claim
- Screenshot of the rejection reason or the passbook entry that is wrong
- Salary slips showing PF deducted, where the employer has not deposited it
- Bank passbook or cancelled cheque, PAN and Aadhaar for KYC mismatches
- Relieving letter or service certificate for date-of-exit disputes
Upload clear scans with the complaint rather than waiting to be asked; it saves a round trip. Our EPF and VPF page explains how contributions and interest are meant to work.
