Who qualifies in UP

You can apply if all of these apply to you:

  • You live in Uttar Pradesh and are 60 or older.
  • Your family is on the BPL list, or your annual income is up to ₹46,080 (village) or ₹56,460 (town or city).
  • You do not already get another pension. The portal’s eligibility note says applicants receiving any other pension are not eligible.
  • You are not a government employee.

You can hold only one of the state’s social pensions at a time: old age, destitute women (widow), disability or leprosy. The FAQ warns that filing more than one application gets all your records rejected as duplicates.

Monthly amount and payment cycle

A state order of 16 December 2021 raised the pension from ₹500 to ₹1,000 a month. The department’s scheme note gives the split: for pensioners aged 60 to 79, ₹800 comes from the state and ₹200 from the Centre. From age 80, the state and Centre pay ₹500 each. The portal’s older FAQ page still shows ₹500; the 2021 order and the payment data supersede it.

Money is released in four instalments a year: April to June, July to September, October to December and January to March. In 2025-26, the portal shows 67,50,000 pensioners paid in each of the first three quarters, and ₹7,838.79 crore paid over the year.

Dainik Bhaskar reported in August 2026 that the government was preparing to raise the pension to ₹1,500 a month. The department has not posted an order for that on the portal, so treat ₹1,000 as the current rate until it does. Dainik Jagran reported on 15 September 2026 that the ₹3,000 quarterly amount is now being paid in two parts of ₹1,500.

A pension is payable from the date the district social welfare officer approves it, not from the date you apply. The department re-verifies all pensioners every year between April and June and removes those who have died or are found ineligible.

Documents needed

  • A recent colour passport-size photograph, as a file of up to 20 KB.
  • Age proof: a certified copy of the family (kutumb) register or an educational certificate showing your date of birth.
  • An income certificate issued by the tehsil, or a copy of the BPL list showing your name. Our guide to the income certificate explains how to get one.
  • Aadhaar card. Enter your name exactly as it appears on Aadhaar.
  • Bank passbook or account details (account number and IFSC).

Upload each document as a PDF of up to 200 KB. Since the order of 12 March 2026, the date of birth on Aadhaar is not accepted as proof of age. The state made this change after UIDAI’s regional office said Aadhaar is not proof of date of birth.
