Log in to the EPFO member portal with your UAN and open Online Services > Track Claim Status. “Under process” means your claim is with the EPFO office, “settled” means the money has been sent to your bank, and “rejected” comes with a reason. EPFO must settle a complete claim within 20 days, and most rejections can be fixed and filed again.

Where to track your EPF claim

Member portal

  1. Go to unifiedportal-mem.epfindia.gov.in and sign in with your UAN and password.
  2. Open the Online Services menu.
  3. Click Track Claim Status.
  4. Check the status against each claim ID.

EPF passbook portal

The passbook portal at passbook.epfindia.gov.in is titled “EPF Passbook & Claim Status”. Sign in with the same UAN and password to see your claims alongside your passbook entries. Our UAN passbook guide explains how to read those entries.

UMANG app

Open EPFO in UMANG, choose Track Claim, enter your UAN and the OTP. Each claim shows its tracking ID, claim type, date raised and status. The mobile number must be linked to your UAN.

EPFO also sends an SMS to your registered mobile if a claim is rejected or returned. The link in that SMS shows the reason.

What each claim status means

Exact wording varies by portal, but claims move through these stages:

Status What it means What to do
Submitted or received The claim reached EPFO and has a claim ID Nothing yet; note the claim ID
Under process The claim is with the EPFO field office for checks and approval Wait up to 20 days before chasing
Approved or payment under process The claim is sanctioned and payment is being sent Watch your bank account
Settled Payment has been released to your seeded bank account Check the credit and passbook entry
Rejected or returned The claim failed a check; a reason is recorded Read the reason, fix it, file again

“Settled” means EPFO has sent the money, not necessarily that your bank has credited it. Allow a few working days before raising a complaint.

Typical settlement timelines

The EPF Scheme, 2026 requires EPFO to settle a complete claim within 20 days of receiving it. If the claim is deficient, EPFO must tell you within the same period. If EPFO misses the limit without sufficient cause, it pays penal interest at 12% a year on the delayed amount.

EPFO’s Citizens’ Charter (November 2022) sets shorter targets, which it calls aspirational:

Claim Form Charter target
PF final withdrawal Form 19 7 working days
PF part withdrawal Form 31 7 working days
Illness advance Form 31 3 working days
PF transfer Form 13 7 working days
Pension withdrawal benefit Form 10C 7 working days
Nominee or survivor claim Form 20 3 working days

Advance claims up to ₹5 lakh for illness, education, marriage and housing are auto-settled without manual checks, within three days. EPFO raised that limit from ₹1 lakh in June 2025.

Common rejection reasons

ItemDetails
Name or date of birth mismatchbetween your UAN profile and Aadhaar.
KYC not completeAadhaar, PAN or bank account not verified against your UAN.
Bank account problemsclosed account, changed IFSC after a bank merger, or an account not in your name.
Date of exit missingon a final settlement claim, so EPFO treats you as still employed.
Not eligibleunder the 2026 scheme, part withdrawal needs 12 months of membership and a minimum balance of 25% of contributions is kept.
Tax declaration missingwith under five years of service and a payout above ₹50,000, TDS applies unless you file the declaration. Form 121 has replaced Forms 15G and 15H under the Income-tax Act, 2025.

One old reason has gone. Since April 2025 EPFO no longer asks for a cheque leaf or passbook image with online claims, which had caused rejections for blurry uploads.

How to re-file after rejection

  1. Read the exact rejection remark on Track Claim Status or through the SMS link.
  2. Fix profile errors under Manage > Modify Basic Details. If your UAN is Aadhaar-verified, you can correct name, date of birth, gender, parents’ names, and dates of joining and leaving yourself, without documents. If your UAN was issued before 1 October 2017, your employer must certify the change.
  3. Fix bank details under Manage > KYC. Once the bank verifies the account, no employer approval is needed.
  4. If your date of exit is missing, update the date of leaving yourself, or ask your former employer to mark it.
  5. Wait until your KYC and profile changes show as approved.
  6. File a fresh claim under Online Services > Claim (Form-31, 19, 10C & 10D) and verify it with the Aadhaar OTP.
  7. Track the new claim ID. If it stalls beyond 20 days, register a grievance at epfigms.gov.in and follow it with View Status.
