You can check IPO allotment status on the registrar’s website or on the BSE and NSE status pages, using your PAN or application number. Under SEBI’s T+3 timeline, allotment is fixed on the first working day after the issue closes, so results usually appear that evening. Shares and refunds follow a day later.
Key facts
| Item | Detail |
|---|---|
| Where to check | The issue’s registrar (named in the red herring prospectus), BSE and NSE |
| What you need | PAN or application number; some registrars also accept DP ID/Client ID |
| Basis of allotment approved | Before 9 pm on T+1 (T is the issue closing day) |
| Money unblocked (UPI bids) | Completed before 4 pm on T+2 |
| Shares credited to demat | Completed before 6 pm on T+2 |
| Listing and trading | T+3 |
| Rule | SEBI circular of 9 August 2023, mandatory for issues opening on or after 1 December 2023 |
| Late unblocking | Your bank owes you ₹100 a day or 15% a year on the application amount, whichever is higher |
Where allotment status is published
The registrar to the issue finalises the basis of allotment with the stock exchange, so its website is usually the first place the result appears. The registrar’s name is printed on the cover page of the red herring prospectus. Most large mainboard issues use one of these:
| Item | Details |
|---|---|
| KFin Technologies | ipostatus.kfintech.com |
| MUFG Intime India | (formerly Link Intime India) — the Public Issues page on in.mpms.mufg.com |
| Bigshare Services | the IPO allotment page on bigshareonline.com |
BSE and NSE also let you look up an application, which helps if a registrar site is slow on result day.
For example, the National Stock Exchange’s own IPO closes on Monday, 21 September 2026, and its registrar is MUFG Intime India. Allotment is expected on 22 September and listing on 24 September. Our IPO calendar tracks open and upcoming issues.
How to check allotment status step by step
On the registrar’s website
- Open the registrar’s IPO status page.
- Select the company from the drop-down list. A company usually appears only once its allotment is final.
- Choose how to search: PAN, application number, or DP ID/Client ID. MUFG Intime also offers bank account number with IFSC; KFin offers demat account number.
- Enter the detail, fill in the captcha if shown, and submit.
- Note the shares applied for and the shares allotted.
On BSE
- Open BSE’s Status of Issue Application page.
- Keep the issue type as Equity.
- Pick the company from the Issue Name list.
- Enter your PAN or application number and search.
On NSE
- Open NSE’s Verify IPO Bid/Allotment Details page.
- Choose the equity and SME IPO bid details option and select the issue’s symbol.
- Enter your PAN or application number and submit.
According to Zerodha’s help pages, bid status stays on the NSE and BSE pages for up to 10 days after the issue closes.
What ‘allotted’, ‘not allotted’ and ‘rejected’ mean
Registrars word results differently, but each falls into one of four groups.
| Status | What it means | What happens to your money |
|---|---|---|
| Allotted | You got shares; the number is shown | The cost of those shares is debited and any balance is unblocked |
| Not allotted | Your bid was valid but did not win the draw, or was below the final issue price | The full amount is unblocked |
| Rejected or invalid | The bid failed a check and was not considered | The full amount is unblocked, if it was blocked at all |
| No record found | Wrong detail entered, wrong registrar, or the result is not uploaded yet | Check again with your application number from the broker or bank |
Common reasons for rejection include:
- The PAN in your demat account does not match the PAN linked to your bank account. SEBI requires registrars to treat such bids as invalid.
- You used someone else’s UPI ID or bank account.
- You made more than one application under the same PAN.
- You did not approve the UPI mandate by 5 pm on the closing day, or the account lacked funds.
- The DP ID or Client ID was wrong.
How the lottery works for retail applicants
Retail individual investors are those bidding up to ₹2 lakh. Regulation 49(4) of the SEBI (Issue of Capital and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2018 says each allotted retail investor must get at least one minimum bid lot, subject to availability.
The registrar divides the retail shares by the lot size to find how many applicants can get one lot. Then:
- If valid applicants are fewer than that number, everyone gets one lot, and leftover shares go proportionately to those who bid for more.
- If valid applicants are more than that number, a draw of lots picks who gets one lot. Everyone else gets nothing.
In a heavily oversubscribed issue, bidding for extra lots does not raise your chance in the draw. Small non-institutional investors (bids above ₹2 lakh and up to ₹10 lakh) go through a similar draw at the minimum NII application size.
When shares reach your demat and when money is released
| Day | What happens | NSE IPO example |
|---|---|---|
| T | Issue closes; UPI mandates must be approved by 5 pm | Mon, 21 Sep 2026 |
| T+1 | Rejections finalised by 6 pm; basis of allotment approved by 9 pm | Tue, 22 Sep 2026 |
| T+2 | Funds debited or unblocked; shares credited by 6 pm; allotment notice on registrar website by 9 pm | Wed, 23 Sep 2026 |
| T+3 | Shares list and trading begins | Thu, 24 Sep 2026 |
Your depository sends an alert when shares are credited, and your demat holdings are the final proof of allotment. Our guide to how a demat account works explains where to see them. If you later sell, the gain is taxed as explained in our page on taxation of stocks.
What to do if the block is not released
For a bid that got nothing, the block should be gone by the end of T+2. If it is still there:
- Check the allotment status to confirm you were not allotted, or were allotted fewer shares.
- Contact your bank with the application number. For a UPI bid, also give the Unique Mandate Number (UMN) shown in your UPI app’s mandate section.
- If the bank does not fix it, write to the registrar using the email address on the prospectus cover, and tell your broker.
- If you are still not satisfied, complain to the stock exchange, and then to SEBI on the SCORES portal (scores.sebi.gov.in).
SEBI’s March 2021 circular makes the bank pay ₹100 a day or 15% a year on the application amount, whichever is higher, for delayed unblocking of unallotted or partly allotted bids. Under the T+3 circular, this is counted from T+3. On a ₹15,000 retail bid, 15% a year works out to about ₹6 a day, so the ₹100 figure applies. If the lead manager or registrar is slow to resolve your complaint, the lead manager owes further compensation at the same rate.
Frequently asked questions
How can I check IPO allotment status by PAN number?
Select the issue on the registrar’s site, BSE’s Status of Issue Application page or NSE’s IPO bid verification page, choose PAN, and enter it. All three accept PAN.
When is IPO allotment status released?
The basis of allotment is approved before 9 pm on the first working day after the issue closes (T+1). Most registrars show results that night or on the morning of T+2.
Why does my status show “no record found”?
You may have picked the wrong company or registrar, entered a wrong number, or checked before results were uploaded. Use the application number from your broker or bank and try again.
Does bidding for more lots improve my chance of allotment?
Not in an oversubscribed retail category. When applicants outnumber available lots, winners are picked by draw and each gets one lot.
When will allotted shares show in my demat account?
The share credit is to be completed before 6 pm on T+2, a day before listing.
My money is still blocked after I got no shares. What should I do?
Contact your bank with the application number and UMN. If the delay continues past T+3, SEBI’s rules entitle you to compensation of ₹100 a day or 15% a year, whichever is higher.
