PM-Kisan e-KYC is compulsory, and an instalment can be held until it is done. You can complete it three ways: an Aadhaar OTP on the PM-Kisan portal or app, a fingerprint scan at a Common Service Centre (CSC) for a ₹15 fee, or a face scan on the PM-Kisan mobile app. The new status shows up about 24 hours later.

Why e-KYC is mandatory
The Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare says e-KYC makes sure the money reaches the intended farmer’s Aadhaar-seeded account without middlemen. The PM-Kisan home page states plainly that e-KYC is mandatory for registered farmers.
e-KYC is one of three checks. According to the government’s June 2026 release, benefits are paid once your land records are seeded on the PM-Kisan portal, your bank account is linked with Aadhaar and your e-KYC is complete. A “No” against any of these can hold your instalment.
The portal’s Know Your Status page shows e-KYC year by year (“Financial Year wise e-KYC”), so check it before each instalment rather than assuming an old e-KYC still counts.
OTP-based e-KYC on the portal
You need a working mobile number linked to your Aadhaar. The OTP goes to that number, not to the number you gave PM-Kisan.
- Open pmkisan.gov.in.
- Click e-KYC at the top right of the home page.
- Enter your Aadhaar number and submit.
- Enter the OTP sent to your Aadhaar-linked mobile number.
- Submit to finish, then check your status after 24 hours.
The same OTP option is available inside the PM-Kisan mobile app.
Biometric e-KYC at a CSC
Use this route if your mobile number is not linked to Aadhaar. The ministry says the facility is available at over 4 lakh CSCs and at State Seva Kendras.
- Find your nearest CSC on the locator at locator.csccloud.in.
- Take your Aadhaar card and your Aadhaar-linked mobile phone, if you have one.
- Ask the operator for PM-Kisan e-KYC.
- Place your finger on the scanner when asked.
- Pay the convenience fee of ₹15 and keep the receipt.
The PM-Kisan home page says biometric e-KYC is also open through state-authorised user logins, so a state agriculture office may be able to help.
Face authentication on the app
Face authentication lets you finish e-KYC on your own phone without an OTP or fingerprint.
- Install the PM-KISAN app and the Aadhaar Face RD app from the Google Play Store.
- Open PM-KISAN and log in with the mobile number registered with PM-Kisan.
- Go to the beneficiary status page.
- If e-KYC status shows “No”, tap e-KYC.
- Enter your Aadhaar number and give consent for the face scan.
- Scan your face in good light. e-KYC is complete once the scan succeeds.
OTP not received and other errors
| Problem | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| No OTP arrives | Mobile number not linked to Aadhaar, or an old number is linked | Use face authentication or a CSC; update the Aadhaar mobile number through UIDAI |
| Face scan fails | Poor light, or Face RD app missing | Install Aadhaar Face RD, retry in daylight, or go to a CSC |
| Fingerprint not matched | Worn fingerprints | Try face authentication on the app |
| Status still “No” after e-KYC | Update not yet reflected | Wait 24 hours, then check Know Your Status |
| e-KYC “Yes” but no money | Land seeding or Aadhaar-bank seeding pending | Check all status fields; see the fixes below |
If e-KYC is done but the payment still fails, the ministry lists three main reasons: the bank removed the Aadhaar link from the NPCI mapper, Aadhaar is not mapped to your account, or the account is closed. Visit your bank to seed Aadhaar and enable DBT. Failed payments are reprocessed once the error is fixed. Aadhaar-based payment has been compulsory since the 13th instalment (December 2022 to March 2023).
Land seeding is handled by your state. If it shows “No”, take your land papers to the revenue or agriculture office; our guide to checking land records online explains how to confirm your record first.
For other questions, use the Kisan eMitra chatbot on the portal, which answers in 11 languages. The date of the next instalment had not been announced as of 16 September 2026.
PM-Kisan is income support, not credit. For crop loans and the Kisan Credit Card, see our page on agriculture loans, and our list of government financial schemes for other options.
