What moves this rate
We rank cards by a published formula, never by preference or by what pays us. The reward rate shown is a realistic blended return, not the boosted headline rate that only applies to a few categories. The weights and the arithmetic are on our methodology page.
Check the annual fee first, against the spending needed to waive it. A card is only free if you were going to spend that much anyway. Otherwise the waiver target costs you more to reach than the fee itself — which is why a plain cashback card often beats a points card for ordinary household spending.
Acceptance is the other constraint specific to Amex in India. Outside metros and large merchants it is patchy, so an Amex is usually a second card rather than the only one in the wallet.
Applying
The reviewed card asks for a 750+ bureau score. If yours is below that, fix the file before you apply rather than after a rejection — start with what affects your credit score. Every bureau owes you one free report a year, so there is no reason to guess.
To compare Amex against the rest of the market rather than against itself, the ranked list of every issuer we track sits under providers.
