PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi pays ₹6,000 a year, in three instalments of ₹2,000, to farmer families that own cultivable land in their own names. You can register yourself on pmkisan.gov.in with your Aadhaar, bank account and land details, or at a Common Service Centre (CSC). Families where anyone paid income tax in the last assessment year are excluded, and your state must verify the application before any money is paid.

Who is eligible and who is excluded
The scheme covers every landholding farmer family, whatever the size of the holding. The 2-hectare limit that applied at launch was removed from 1 June 2019. A family means husband, wife and minor children who own cultivable land as per the state’s land records.
The land must be in your own name. If you farm land that is still recorded in your father’s name, you are not eligible until it is transferred to you. Tenant farmers are not covered, because landholding is the only qualifying test. Land in urban areas counts if it is actually cultivated. Agricultural land used for non-farm purposes does not.
Exclusions
A family is out of the scheme if any member falls in one of these groups:
- Institutional landholders.
- Former and present holders of constitutional posts.
- Former and present ministers, MPs, MLAs, MLCs, mayors of municipal corporations and chairpersons of district panchayats.
- Serving or retired officers and employees of central or state government, PSUs, autonomous bodies and regular employees of local bodies. Multi Tasking Staff, Class IV and Group D employees are not excluded.
- Retired pensioners with a monthly pension of ₹10,000 or more (again, except MTS, Class IV and Group D).
- Anyone who paid income tax in the last assessment year.
- Doctors, engineers, lawyers, chartered accountants and architects registered with professional bodies and in practice.
A false declaration makes you liable to repay every instalment received, and to penal action.
The 1 February 2019 cut-off
Eligibility is judged on land held on 1 February 2019. Land bought or gifted after that date does not qualify. Land that passed to you by succession after the owner’s death is the exception. The portal says farmers who acquired land after this date are under physical verification.
Documents you need
| Item | Details |
|---|---|
| Aadhaar number | , linked to a working mobile number for the OTP. |
| Mobile number | for updates on your application. |
| Bank account number and IFSC | . The account must be seeded with Aadhaar to receive money. |
| Land record | khata or khatauni, survey or khasra number and area, plus a scanned copy to upload. |
| Farmer ID | , if your state has started its farmer registry under AgriStack. |

New farmer registration online
- Open pmkisan.gov.in and, under Farmers Corner, click New Farmer Registration.
- Enter your Aadhaar number and mobile number, and select your state.
- Read the Aadhaar consent statements, tick the box and click Confirm.
- Complete the OTP steps. You can proceed only if UIDAI authenticates your Aadhaar.
- Fill in your name, gender, category and bank details.
- Choose single or joint ownership and add each plot: khata number, khasra or survey number and area in hectares.
- Enter how and when the land came to you, such as by inheritance, and the mutation date.
- Upload the land document, accept the self-declaration and click Save.
- Note the confirmation shown on screen and keep your Aadhaar and mobile number handy for tracking.
The field names after the Aadhaar step follow LibTech India’s self-registration guide. Your state’s screen may differ slightly, because land fields match each state’s records. Next, complete e-KYC through OTP, a CSC fingerprint scan or face authentication on the PM-Kisan app. Our PM-Kisan e-KYC guide covers all three.
Registering through a CSC
If you do not have a smartphone or your Aadhaar is not linked to a mobile number, visit a Common Service Centre. The village-level operator logs in to the PM-Kisan CSC portal, enters the same details and can complete biometric e-KYC with your fingerprint. Carry your Aadhaar card, bank passbook and land papers. Ask the operator about any service charge before you start.
You can also apply through your patwari, revenue officer or another officer designated by the state. Block and tehsil offices help farmers who have no mobile phone.
After registration: state verification
Your application goes automatically to the State Nodal Officer, who checks it against land records and uploads verified data to the portal. The data is then checked by NIC, PFMS and the banks before payment. Once the state approves, the benefit goes out with the next instalment. Applications with missing documents or details can be rejected.
To track a self-registration, click Status of Self Registered Farmer/CSC Farmers under Farmers Corner and enter your Aadhaar number. A rejected application shows the reason. After approval, use Know Your Status with your 11-digit registration number. Our page on PM-Kisan beneficiary status messages explains each result. Details you entered wrongly can be changed through Edit / Update Self Registration.
If your name is left out, approach the District Level Grievance Redressal Monitoring Committee, or raise a query through the Helpdesk link on the portal. Farmers who want working capital beyond this ₹6,000 can look at the Kisan Credit Card and agriculture loans.
