Credsir earns money when you apply for a product through some of the links on this site. That revenue funds the research. It does not buy a placement: our rankings come from a published scoring method that runs on the same data for every product, partner or not. To check your Aadhaar update status, open the Check Aadhaar Status page on myAadhaar and enter the number from your acknowledgement: the URN from an Aadhaar centre, the SRN from an online request, or the 28-digit EID. The result shows whether the request is still in process, completed or rejected. A rejection is usually down to a document problem, and you can file a fresh request once you fix it.

What each stage means

UIDAI does not publish an official list of status messages. Kotak Mahindra Bank’s guide lists the stages an online request moves through as Draft, Payment, Verification, Validation and Completed, with these outcomes:

Status What it means What to do
Request accepted, under process UIDAI is checking the data and documents Wait; most requests finish within 30 days
Completed Your Aadhaar record now shows the new details Download a fresh e-Aadhaar
Rejected The request failed a document or data check Find the reason, fix it and apply again

A request stuck at the payment stage usually means the payment did not go through. UIDAI’s handbook says you can cancel such a request after logging in, and any amount paid is refunded on cancellation or payment failure. You can cancel any request before UIDAI starts processing it.

Common rejection reasons

UIDAI’s FAQ lists these reasons for rejection:

  • documents that do not match the details entered
  • discrepancies in the information provided
  • operator errors at the centre
  • invalid documents
  • crossing the update limit for name, gender or date of birth
  • requests that break UIDAI policy

For online requests, UIDAI’s handbook adds practical checks:

  • The data you type must match the uploaded document.
  • The document must be in the name of the person being updated.
  • Choose the document name that matches what you uploaded.
  • Upload a clear, high-resolution colour scan of the original.
  • The age on the document must match the photo on Aadhaar.

To find the exact reason, call 1947 before you apply again. If you have hit the limit for name, gender or date of birth, place the request at an Aadhaar centre. Then send the new URN to 1947 or help@uidai.gov.in and ask for an exception update, which the regional office reviews.

Our guide to the free Aadhaar document update lists the documents UIDAI accepts, and the mobile number update guide covers the one change that needs a centre, the app or a postman.
