A Consolidated Account Statement (CAS) lists every mutual fund folio and demat holding linked to your PAN in one document. If you have a demat account, NSDL or CDSL emails it to you each month you transact. Anyone can also request a mutual-fund-only CAS from CAMS, KFintech or MF Central, which arrives by email within minutes.
Key facts
| Item | Detail |
|---|---|
| What it covers | Demat holdings with NSDL and CDSL, plus mutual fund units held in statement-of-account (folio) form, matched by PAN |
| Who sends it | NSDL or CDSL if your PAN has a demat account; otherwise the mutual funds, with folio details only |
| Monthly CAS (depositories) | Sent if you transacted that month: by the 12th day after month end by email, by the 15th if you opted for paper |
| Half-yearly CAS (depositories) | Holdings-only statement if you did not transact: by 18 April and 18 October by email, 21 April and 21 October by post |
| Default mode | Email since 1 August 2024; paper only if you ask for it |
| On-demand CAS | CAMS, KFintech and MF Central send a PDF to your registered email |
The dispatch dates come from SEBI’s circular of 14 February 2025, in force from 14 May 2025. It gives mutual fund registrars (RTAs) 5 days after month end to share data with the depositories, which then consolidate it.
What a CAS includes
NSDL says its CAS covers equity and preference shares, sovereign gold bonds, debentures, government securities, NPS holdings and mutual fund units held in folio form with different fund houses. Only accounts where you are the sole or first holder are included.
Mutual fund entries show financial transactions only. According to AMFI, these are purchases, redemptions, switches, SIPs, SWPs and STPs, IDCW payouts or reinvestments, scheme mergers and bonus units. A monthly CAS shows only the folios with a transaction that month. The half-yearly CAS lists all your holdings.
Depository CAS vs RTA CAS
| Point | NSDL / CDSL CAS | CAMS / KFintech / MF Central CAS |
|---|---|---|
| Covers | Demat holdings in both depositories plus mutual fund folios | Mutual fund folios only |
| How you get it | Arrives automatically; past statements can be downloaded | You request it for a period you choose |
| Password | PAN of the first or sole holder, in capital letters | A password you set on the request form |
| Best for | A monthly view of your full portfolio | A statement for a specific period, such as a financial year for tax |
If you have demat accounts with both NSDL and CDSL, the depository holding the account you opened first becomes your default depository. It sends one CAS covering both. You can change the default through your depository participant (DP) at the current default depository.
How to download your CAS
From CDSL
- Open the CAS login page on cdslindia.com.
- Enter your PAN, 16-digit demat account number (BO ID) and date of birth, then submit.
- Enter the OTP sent to your registered mobile.
- Click Download CAS, choose the period and click Search.
- Download the statement or have it emailed to you.
From NSDL
- Go to nsdlcas.nsdl.com and register for the IDeAS facility, or log in to IDeAS at eservices.nsdl.com if you already use it.
- Create a user ID and password, then log in.
- Open the CAS section and download the statement you need. NSDL keeps e-CAS sent in the previous 12 months.
NSDL’s SPEED-e app also gives access. CDSL’s CAS can be pulled into DigiLocker: search for CDSL, pick Consolidated Account Statement, and enter your demat ID and PAN.
From CAMS, KFintech or MF Central
CAMS and KFintech run a joint CAS service, so one request covers funds serviced by either registrar. On the KFintech form:
- Enter your registered email ID. PAN is optional but helps.
- Choose Summary or Detailed.
- Pick Current Financial Year, Previous Financial Year or Specific Period.
- Tick the box if you want zero-balance folios included.
- Set a password of at least 8 characters with an uppercase letter, a lowercase letter, a number and a special character.
- Submit. The PDF arrives at your registered email and opens with that password.
AMFI’s download page links to the CAMS, KFintech and MF Central forms. It notes that a Specific Period can be no longer than 365 days, and MF Central needs you to sign up first.
Reading the statement
The layout differs by issuer, but the main blocks are similar:
| Item | Details |
|---|---|
| Investor details | name, PAN, email and mobile on record. |
| Portfolio summary | value of each asset type on the statement date. |
| Demat holdings | each security with its ISIN, quantity and value, account by account. |
| Mutual fund folios | fund house, folio number, scheme and plan, registrar, nominee status, and date-wise transactions with NAV, units and balance. |
| Cost and value | since October 2016, SEBI has required each CAS to show the total purchase value or cost of investment in each scheme. |
The half-yearly CAS, under the same 2016 SEBI circular, also shows the commission your fund house paid distributors on your investment in each scheme. It also shows the scheme’s average total expense ratio for the half year. The commission is gross, before the distributor’s GST and costs. Our guide to expense ratios in mutual funds explains that figure.
Use the cost and transaction dates to work out your returns and holding periods. Our explainer on XIRR vs CAGR covers the return side. The capital gains calculator helps with tax when you sell.
Fixing missing folios
A folio usually drops out of a CAS for one of these reasons:
| Item | Details |
|---|---|
| No PAN, or a different PAN, on the folio. | AMFI says consolidation works only where valid PANs are recorded for all holders. Older folios opened without PAN are the usual gap. |
| You are not the first holder. | The depository CAS includes only accounts where you are sole or first holder. |
| Units held in demat form. | These appear under your demat holdings, not as folios. |
| A different email on the folio. | An RTA CAS is sent to the email registered with the folios. |
| No transaction that month. | The monthly CAS skips inactive folios; check the half-yearly statement instead. |
To fix a missing PAN or email, submit a change request to the fund house or its registrar, online or at an investor service centre. Your KYC must be in order first; our guide to investing in mutual funds covers KYC and folios. To switch between email and paper CAS, ask any DP or use the NSDL CAS website.
Frequently asked questions
What is the password for a CAS PDF?
For NSDL and CDSL e-CAS, it is the PAN of the first or sole holder in capital letters. For a CAMS or KFintech CAS, it is the password you set on the request form.
When will I get my monthly CAS?
If you transacted during the month, the depository emails it by the 12th day after month end. Paper copies go out by the 15th day.
Why did I not receive a CAS this month?
A monthly CAS is sent only if there was a transaction in any demat account or folio. Otherwise you get a holdings statement in April and October.
Can I get a CAS without a demat account?
Yes. Request one from CAMS, KFintech or MF Central, which cover mutual fund folios linked to your email and PAN.
Does the NSDL CAS show my CDSL holdings?
Yes. The default depository’s CAS covers demat accounts in both NSDL and CDSL, plus mutual fund folios.
How do I download an old CAS?
NSDL IDeAS users can download e-CAS sent in the previous 12 months. CDSL lets you choose the period on its CAS login page.
Is there a fee for a CAS?
None of the NSDL, CDSL, CAMS or KFintech pages we checked lists a charge for the statement.
