On 16 September 2026, 1 Omani rial was worth about ₹249.53. Oman fixes its rial at USD 2.6008, so the figure comes from multiplying that peg by the RBI reference rate of ₹95.9433 per dollar. SBI’s rate card that morning sold rial notes at ₹260.40 and bought them at ₹236.

The RBI does not publish a rial rate of its own, so every rupee figure here is worked out from a dollar rate. These are fixed daily figures, not a live quote. For other currencies, see our exchange rates today page, which is updated separately.

Why the Omani rial moves with the dollar

The Central Bank of Oman has held the rial at USD 2.6008 since the last change in parity in 1986. When the dollar moves against other currencies, the rial moves with it. That means the OMR to INR rate is, in practice, the USD to INR rate multiplied by 2.6008.

So a ₹1 rise in the dollar lifts the rial by about ₹2.60. To follow the rial, follow the dollar: our USD to INR rate page tracks it. We do not publish forecasts. Past movement says nothing reliable about next month’s rate.

1 OMR in Indian rupees: conversion table

The table uses the derived rate of ₹249.5293 for 16 September 2026. A bank, card or exchange house applies its own rate, so treat these as mid-points, not the price you get.

OMR to INR rate in June, July, August and September 2026

Many people searched for the rate in June 2026. The table below applies the 2.6008 peg to the daily USD/INR noon buying rates published by the US Federal Reserve.

Month Average Low High
June 2026 ₹246.97 ₹245.33 (18 Jun) ₹249.13 (4 Jun)
July 2026 ₹249.31 ₹247.00 (7 Jul) ₹251.16 (22 Jul)
August 2026 ₹248.23 ₹247.44 (5 Aug) ₹249.03 (19 Aug)
September 2026 (1–11 Sep) ₹247.01 ₹245.75 (3 Sep) ₹248.51 (11 Sep)

Over the year to 11 September 2026, the rial rose about 8% against the rupee, from ₹230.01 on 11 September 2025 to ₹248.51. The rise reflects the dollar’s gain over the rupee in that period, since the rial itself did not move against the dollar.

Why the rate you get differs from the rate you see

Search results and converter sites show mid-market or reference rates. No bank or exchange house deals with customers at that price.

Sending money from Oman. When a transfer reaches an Indian bank account, the bank buys the rials at its transfer rate. SBI’s was ₹242.68 on 16 September, so OMR 100 would have become ₹24,268 before any fees, against ₹24,953 at the reference rate.
Cash costs more.SBI’s spread on rial notes was ₹24.40, from ₹236 to ₹260.40. Buying OMR 45 in notes at the selling rate would cost ₹11,718.
Exchange houses and apps.Remittance firms in Oman set their own rate and fee. Compare the rupee amount that will land, not the headline rate. Our guide to sending money to India explains what to check.
Paying in rupees abroad. If a shop or ATM in Oman offers to charge your Indian card in rupees, it applies its own rate. Paying in rials usually avoids that extra conversion.

How to buy Omani rials in India

  1. Choose an authorised seller: an authorised dealer bank or a money changer licensed by the RBI.
  2. Compare the seller’s rate for the product you want (notes, forex card or transfer) against the day’s derived rate.
  3. Give your PAN. The RBI makes it mandatory for resident individuals sending money abroad under the Liberalised Remittance Scheme.
  4. Pay in cash only if the total is below ₹50,000. From ₹50,000 upward, pay by cheque, banker’s cheque, pay order, demand draft, or debit, credit or prepaid card.
  5. Keep the notes you buy within USD 3,000 or its equivalent per trip, which is about OMR 1,150, and load the rest on a card.

After you return from Oman

RBI rules let you keep foreign currency worth up to USD 2,000. Notes above that must be surrendered to an authorised person within 180 days of your return. You get the bank’s buying rate when you sell, which for SBI notes was ₹236 on 16 September.

If you land in India with foreign currency notes worth more than USD 5,000, declare them to Customs. The same applies if all your foreign exchange together is worth more than USD 10,000.
