Can you check your CIBIL score for free?
Yes. The RBI directs every credit information company to give individuals one free full credit report, including the credit score, once at any time in each calendar year. The report must carry the same detail that banks see. The bureau must first confirm who you are, which is why you need an ID and an OTP.
After the free check, CIBIL charges for more reports through paid plans. Because the free quota runs on the calendar year, a check in March 2026 and another in January 2027 are both free.
How to check your CIBIL score free on cibil.com
- Go to cibil.com and open the Free CIBIL Score and Report page, not a paid plan.
- Create an account with your name, email, mobile number and an identity document. PAN is the usual choice.
- Enter the OTP sent to your mobile number. CIBIL may also ask questions about your loans to confirm your identity.
- Open your dashboard to see the score and the full report.
- If you already have a myCIBIL account, log in, go to My Account and click Get your Free Report.
Checking your own score is a soft enquiry, and it does not lower the score. Read more in our note on hard and soft enquiries.
Free credit score from the other bureaus
Your CIBIL score is only one of four scores. Each bureau holds its own copy of your credit data, and each must give you one free report a year. Checking all four spaces out your free reports through the year.
| Bureau | How to get the free report |
|---|---|
| TransUnion CIBIL | Free CIBIL Score and Report page on cibil.com |
| Experian | Free credit report on experian.in |
| Equifax | Create an account, verify by OTP, confirm date of birth, address and ID, then click “Run your Free Report” |
| CRIF High Mark | Free report once each calendar year from the personal credit score page |
Equifax also takes offline requests. Send its credit report request form with ID and address proof, and it shares the report within 7 days. See how the four bureaus compare.
Free CIBIL score through banks and apps
Many banks, lenders and fintech apps show a free score after you share your mobile number and PAN. HDFC Bank, for example, explains how to check your score online. These services get your report from a bureau with your consent, and many use the data to show loan or card offers.
- Use the bureau’s own site if you want the full report without marketing.
- Read the consent screen before you agree, as you may be allowing the app to share your data with partner lenders.
- Never pay an agent or share an OTP over a call to “get” your CIBIL score.
Can you check CIBIL by Aadhaar or PAN number alone?
No. There is no RBI or CIBIL service that shows your score for a PAN or Aadhaar number typed into a box. The bureau must verify that you are the person named, usually with an OTP to your registered mobile number. PAN is the most common ID. Equifax lists PAN, passport and Aadhaar among its accepted documents.
If a site shows a score for any PAN you enter without checking your identity, do not use it.
How current is your CIBIL score?
Your score changes only when lenders send new data. From 1 July 2026, banks and other lenders report to bureaus as of the 9th, 16th, 23rd and last day of each month. Before that, they reported twice a month. A repaid loan or cleared card due can now show up within days, though bureaus also need time to process the file.
No service shows a truly “real-time” score. Each check shows the latest data the bureau holds.
What to do after you check
- Match every loan and card in the report with your own records.
- Look for accounts you never opened and enquiries you never made. Bureaus must send SMS or email alerts when a lender pulls your report, so act on any alert you do not recognise.
- Raise a dispute on the bureau’s website for any error. If it is not fixed within 30 days of your complaint, you are entitled to ₹100 for each day of delay. Our guide to fixing a CIBIL dispute covers the steps.
- Compare your score with what lenders expect in what is a good credit score.
Frequently asked questions
How can I check my CIBIL score for free?
Use the Free CIBIL Score and Report page on cibil.com. Register with your mobile number and an ID such as PAN, verify with the OTP and open your report. It is free once every calendar year.
Can we check CIBIL score for free more than once?
CIBIL gives one free report each calendar year. You can get one more free report from each of Experian, Equifax and CRIF High Mark in the same year.
Does checking my own CIBIL score reduce it?
No. Your own check is a soft enquiry. Only a lender’s check when you apply for credit is recorded as a hard enquiry.
Can I check my CIBIL score by PAN number online for free?
You can use PAN as your ID when you register, but the bureau will verify you with an OTP first. No official service shows a score for a PAN number alone.
Why does CIBIL say my score is not available?
CIBIL gives a score only to people with an active loan or credit card in the last 36 months, as reported to it. If you are new to credit, see our guide to building credit from scratch.
Is there an RBI website to check CIBIL score?
No. The RBI regulates credit bureaus but does not show scores. Check with the bureaus directly.
How often is my CIBIL score updated?
Lenders now report four times a month, as of the 9th, 16th, 23rd and month-end. Your score updates when the bureau processes that data.
