Bank of Baroda’s best fixed deposit rate is 6.75% a year, and 7.25% for senior citizens. Rates vary by tenure, and the best rate sits on a specific bucket rather than across the board.
The rate
| General | Senior citizen | Best tenure |

How it compares
This is the 6th highest of the 12 providers we track for fixed deposits, 1.50% below Suryoday Small Finance Bank at 8.25%. Among public sector banks, Punjab National Bank is at 6.60% and State Bank of India at 6.45%. The full ranked table is on best FD interest rates.
A gap of that size is worth understanding rather than simply chasing. Small finance banks pay more because they need deposits, and DICGC cover is ₹5 lakh per depositor per bank including interest — so the higher rate applies to a smaller safe amount than most savers assume.
What it means after tax
FD interest is taxed at your normal slab rate. There is no special treatment, so the advertised rate is a before-tax figure and the bank cuts TDS once your interest crosses the yearly threshold. To see what a given deposit actually returns at your slab, run it through the FD maturity calculator.
If you need the money before maturity, breaking the deposit is not the only option — a loan against FD usually costs less than the interest you forfeit on a premature withdrawal.
