Rate, maximum and fees

Advertised rate Maximum rate Terms Fee
10.99% 33.00% Up to 6 years Up to 5% + GST

Updated 17 Sep 2026 · Lender rate pages, checked individually

The advertised figure is a starting rate, not an offer. The 33.00% is the lender’s own published ceiling, and the gap between the two is the whole story on an unsecured loan.

What that costs in rupees

On ₹5,00,000 over 5 years.

EMI at 10.99% ₹10,869/month
Total interest ₹1,52,123
EMI at the 33.00% maximum ₹17,110/month
Extra interest at the maximum rate ₹3,74,477

Principal and interest only. Processing fee, GST, documentation and any insurance sold alongside the loan are additional. Landing at the ceiling rather than the floor costs ₹3,74,477 more on the same ₹5 lakh — more than half the loan again. Run your own amount and tenure through the EMI calculator before you agree to anything.

How it compares

Tata Capital is the joint 7th cheapest of the 8 providers we track — 1.00% above HDFC Bank, Axis Bank, ICICI Bank and IDFC First Bank at 9.99%. The full ranking, with each lender’s own dated rate card, is on personal loan interest rates today.

What moves this rate

Non-banking financial company (NBFC). Not required to price off an external benchmark — it lends against an internal reference rate, so rate cuts historically arrive more slowly than increases.

Personal loan rate ranges are much wider than home loan ranges. The reason is simple: nothing backs the loan. There is no property to recover, so the rate has to cover the whole risk. A lender advertising from around 10% can quote more than double that to someone with a thin credit history, which makes improving your credit score the single cheapest thing you can do before applying.

The tenure is much shorter than a home loan, usually five or six years. That keeps your total interest down but pushes the EMI up. Check the early-closure terms before you sign. Being able to prepay without a charge is worth more than a small difference in the rate — what a lender may and may not charge you to close early is set out in loan foreclosure and charges.
