Who can get a two-wheeler loan

Salaried people, pensioners, self-employed people and farmers can all apply. Each lender sets its own cut-offs:

ItemDetails
SBI Two-Wheeler Loanage 18 to 65; net monthly income of ₹10,000 for salaried people and pensioners, or ₹1.5 lakh a year for others.
HDFC Bankage 21 to 65, salaried or self-employed, minimum monthly income of ₹10,000. Partnership firms and companies can also apply.
Bank of Barodaminimum age 21, and your age plus the loan term must not pass 70. Its digital loan needs an average net salary of ₹20,000, or ₹25,000 if you have no credit history.

Your credit score decides the rate. Most banks price the loan off your bureau score, so check it before you apply; our guide to a good credit score explains the bands.

What is the maximum bike loan available?

Two limits apply: the lender’s cap on the loan, and a share of the on-road price.

Loan Loan amount Your share
SBI Two-Wheeler Loan ₹50,000 to ₹3 lakh, and no more than 6 times net monthly income 15% (loan up to 85% of on-road price)
SBI Super Bike Loan ₹1.5 lakh to ₹25 lakh; income of ₹3 lakh a year needed 15% for SBI salary-package customers, 20% for others
Bank of Baroda Two Wheeler Loan Up to ₹10 lakh 10% up to ₹3 lakh; 15% above
Bank of Baroda Digital Two-Wheeler Loan ₹50,000 to ₹3 lakh Finance up to 93%

Your income caps the EMI too. SBI keeps the EMI within 50% of net monthly income, or 60% for its salary-package customers. On a ₹25,000 salary, SBI’s six-times rule limits the loan to ₹1.5 lakh. At 12.40% that costs ₹5,011 a month over 3 years, or ₹3,367 over 5 years.

Documents required

  • Identity proof: PAN, Aadhaar, passport, voter ID or driving licence
  • Address proof, if your address has changed from bank records
  • Income proof: 3 months’ salary slips or salary-credited bank statement, or Form 16, for salaried people
  • For self-employed people: bank statements and the latest income tax return
  • The dealer’s quotation for the bike
  • Photographs and the signed application form

SBI does not ask for fresh KYC documents if your SBI account is already KYC-compliant.

How to get a loan for a two-wheeler

  1. Choose the bike and get the on-road price quotation from the dealer: ex-showroom price, RTO registration and insurance.
  2. Check your credit score and settle any overdue EMIs or card dues first.
  3. Compare the rate, processing fee and prepayment terms at two or three lenders, including your own bank.
  4. Apply online, at the branch or at the dealer’s finance desk, and upload or hand in the documents.
  5. Read the Key Facts Statement. Since 1 October 2024 lenders must give one for every new retail loan, showing the annual percentage rate and all charges.
  6. Pay the down payment to the dealer and sign the loan agreement and the auto-debit (NACH) mandate.
  7. The lender pays the dealer, and the registration certificate records the lender’s hypothecation.

Fees and charges to compare

A low rate with a high fee can cost more than it looks. Published charges at three lenders:

Lender Processing fee Prepayment
SBI Two-Wheeler Loan 3% plus GST; half waived for salary-package customers Fixed-rate loan; check the sanction letter
SBI Super Bike Loan 2% plus GST, capped at ₹10,000 plus GST Fixed-rate loan; check the sanction letter
Bank of Baroda 2% of the loan plus GST Nil on floating-rate loans
HDFC Bank Up to 2.5%, plus documentation charges up to 2.25% 5% of principal within 24 months, 3% after

RBI rules bar prepayment charges on floating-rate loans taken by individuals for non-business use and sanctioned from 1 January 2026. Many bike loans are fixed-rate, so ask which type you are signing.

After you repay

Collect the no-objection certificate and Form 35 from the lender. Then apply for hypothecation termination on the Parivahan portal so the lender’s name is removed from your registration certificate. Keep paying on time until then: lenders now report your repayments to credit bureaus on the 9th, 16th, 23rd and last day of every month, so a missed EMI shows up within about two weeks.
