SBI e-Mudra was SBI’s online route for a Shishu Mudra loan: existing SBI savings or current account holders could apply for up to ₹50,000 without visiting a branch. As of 16 September 2026, SBI’s Mudra page sends online applicants to the JanSamarth portal, and the old e-Mudra web address did not load for us. Loans above ₹50,000 still need you to deal with the branch.

Who can use SBI e-Mudra

Mudra loans are for non-corporate, non-farm micro and small businesses. SBI’s page covers manufacturing, trading and services, including activities allied to farming. Both new and existing units can borrow, for working capital or equipment.

For the online Shishu route you also need:

  • An individual savings or current account with SBI; CreditMantri says it must have been active for at least 6 months.
  • A running or planned business with basic proof, such as a shop address and Udyam registration.
  • Aadhaar linked to your mobile number, for eKYC and e-sign.

Our Mudra loan eligibility and rates guide covers all four Mudra categories across banks. This page covers only SBI’s online route.

The real online limit

Searches for “e mudra loan 50000” are right about the ceiling. ₹50,000 is the top of the Shishu category, and it is the most you can apply for fully online as an existing SBI customer.

Mudra category Loan amount SBI route
Shishu Up to ₹50,000 Online for existing account holders
Kishor ₹50,001 to ₹5 lakh Apply online or at a branch; the branch appraises the loan
Tarun ₹5 lakh to ₹10 lakh Apply online or at a branch; the branch appraises the loan
Tarun Plus ₹10 lakh to ₹20 lakh Only if you have taken and repaid a Tarun loan

Older descriptions of e-Mudra, such as CreditMantri’s, put the overall e-Mudra cap at ₹1 lakh, with anything above ₹50,000 finished at the branch. SBI’s own PMMY page no longer describes e-Mudra separately, so confirm the current cap with your branch. SBI’s page also still lists only three categories up to ₹10 lakh. MUDRA’s site confirms the Tarun Plus category up to ₹20 lakh.

Repayment runs up to 5 years for loans below ₹5 lakh, and up to 7 years for ₹5 lakh to ₹10 lakh. Try your numbers in our EMI calculator before you apply.

Documents to keep ready

  • Aadhaar (mobile-linked) and PAN
  • SBI account number and branch details
  • Business proof: Udyam registration, GST registration if you have one, shop or trade licence
  • Business name, address and date of starting
  • Caste certificate, if you want it recorded (SC/ST/OBC/minority)
  • For larger loans: quotations for machinery, bank statements and income tax returns

If you have not registered your business yet, our Udyam registration guide walks through the free process.

How to apply online

  1. Go to jansamarth.in/apply/sbi, the link SBI’s Mudra page gives for online applications.
  2. Register with your mobile number and verify the OTP.
  3. Choose the business activity loan category and the Mudra scheme.
  4. Answer the eligibility questions and enter the loan amount you need.
  5. Complete Aadhaar eKYC and fill in your business and SBI account details.
  6. Upload the documents asked for and submit; note the application reference.
  7. If approved, accept the terms and e-sign the loan agreement with Aadhaar OTP. For amounts above ₹50,000, visit your branch to finish the paperwork.

You can also skip the portal and apply at any SBI branch. MUDRA’s own site points borrowers to lending branches and to the Udyamimitra portal as well.

Fake e-Mudra websites and loan offers

Many sites use “e-Mudra”, “Mudra” or SBI branding to collect fees. MUDRA says it is a refinancing body and does not lend directly to individuals. It has also said it employs no agents or middlemen for Mudra loans.

PIB’s Fact Check Unit has flagged fake Mudra approval letters. One letter, reported by All India Radio in September 2025, promised a ₹3 lakh loan if the borrower paid ₹36,500 as “legal insurance charges”.

Signs of a scam:

  • A loan “approval letter” arrives before you have applied to any bank.
  • You are asked to pay a processing fee, insurance, stamp duty or a “file charge” into a personal account or UPI ID.
  • The website is not sbi.bank.in, jansamarth.in, udyamimitra.in or mudra.org.in.
  • Someone asks for your OTP, UPI PIN or net banking password.

If you have paid a scammer, call the cyber fraud helpline 1930 or report it on cybercrime.gov.in at once. Our page on illegal loan apps covers what to do if you are being harassed.

If your application is rejected

  1. Ask the branch for the reason; a weak credit record, missing business proof or an overdue loan is common.
  2. Fix the gap, such as Udyam registration or clearing an overdue loan, and apply again.
  3. Apply at the branch instead of online. The branch can assess a business the online check cannot.
  4. Try another lender. Mudra loans are also given by other commercial banks, regional rural banks, small finance banks, cooperative banks, microfinance institutions and NBFCs.

Frequently asked questions

Can I get an SBI e-Mudra loan of ₹50,000 online?

Yes, if you are an existing SBI account holder and meet the bank’s checks. ₹50,000 is the Shishu ceiling and the fully online limit.

Is SBI e-Mudra available to people without an SBI account?

The online Shishu route is for existing SBI savings or current account holders. Others can apply through JanSamarth or at a branch.

Is there a processing fee on SBI Shishu Mudra loans?

No. SBI charges no processing fee on Shishu and Kishore loans to micro and small units. Tarun loans carry 0.50% plus tax.

Do I need collateral for an SBI Mudra loan?

No. Mudra loans are covered by the CGFMU guarantee through NCGTC, so the bank does not rely on your collateral.

What is the SBI e-Mudra website?

SBI’s Mudra page now directs online applications to jansamarth.in/apply/sbi. Treat any other site claiming to be “SBI e-Mudra” with caution.

Does MUDRA send loan approval letters?

No. MUDRA does not lend to individuals, so a letter from “MUDRA” asking for a fee is fake.
