How it compares
Axis Bank is the joint 10th cheapest of the 12 providers we track — 0.85% above Canara Bank at 7.15%. The full ranking, with each lender’s own dated rate card, is on home loan interest rates today.
What moves this rate
Private sector bank. Floating retail loans are priced off an external benchmark, so RBI rate cuts pass through within a reset cycle.
The advertised rate is a starting point, not an offer. It goes to the strongest applicants: a high credit score, a big down payment and usually a salaried job at an approved employer. The maximum in the table above is the bank’s own upper limit. Where you land between the two is set by your credit score, not by bargaining — which makes what actually affects your credit score worth reading before you apply rather than after.
Read the fee together with the rate, not separately. Where a fee is quoted without tax, add 18% GST to get what you actually pay. On a big, long loan the rate matters most. On a smaller or shorter one, a low rate with a high fee is often the costlier deal.
If you already have a loan elsewhere
A 0.85% gap against the cheapest lender on a ₹50 lakh loan is real money over twenty years, and it is the case for moving rather than renegotiating. What a switch costs, and the point at which it stops being worth it, is set out in home loan balance transfer.
Other Axis Bank products
Axis Bank also lends unsecured — its personal loan starts at 9.99% — and the rest of what we hold on the bank, including its fixed deposits and its credit cards, is collected on the Axis Bank page.
